Africa Borderlands Centre Innovation Challenge Report 2021-2022

November 2, 2023

In May 2021, the Africa Borderlands Centre (ABC) initiated the 2021 Innovation Challenge, focusing on improving the livelihoods of informal cross-border traders and their communities. The goal was to identify, nurture, and amplify local innovations in borderland regions of Africa, particularly those benefitting informal cross-border trade (ICBT), with a strong emphasis on enhancing opportunities for women and youth. The project ran from June 2021 to December 2023, aiming to scale up successful innovations addressing persistent challenges in ICBT. The purpose of this end-of-project report is to comprehensively assess the impact of the ABC's Innovation Challenge.
