A peaceful continent is possible. This aspiration inspired the Silencing the Guns in Africa agenda, a flagship initiative of the African Union’s (AU) Agenda 2063 that aspires to end all wars, conflict and gender-based violence, and to prevent genocide. As a long-standing partner to the African Union, UNDP has recommitted its partnerships, programmes and opportunities to furthering the Silencing the Guns agenda by 2030 by creating the necessary conditions for Africa’s transformative development. This report focuses on the developmental approach to silencing the guns, and provides a synthesis of how UNDP’s programmatic priorities on people, prosperity, planet and peace coincide with and contribute to the AU’s continental aspirations.
