Women in Governance and Political Participation

Women in Governance and Political Participation

Our partnership with WANEP and ECOWAS seeks to empower women at local and national levels as critical stakeholders in governance and political transitions in Mali, Cote d’Ivoire, Niger and Burkina Faso. This initiative aims to improve capacity for existing and emerging women leaders including young/marginalized women, accelerate the implementation of legislation on gender equality in leadership and elections, and sustain peace and violence prevention in electoral processes.

Based on the prevailing context in target countries and its immediate long-term potential impact in the Sahel, the programme will be organized around three key reforms:

1. Socio-Economic Reforms

2. Political Transition and Reforms

3. Natural Resource Governance

Theory of change

By prioritizing inclusive political dialogue and participation of women in political processes and decision making, citizen to state relationship will be enhanced thereby increasing confidence in democratic ethos and ensuring better governance.
