A socioeconomic assessment conducted in 2020 revealed that rural areas in the Nile Delta coastal strip face interlinked development challenges directly impacting rural communities’ livelihoods and resilience to withstand expected impacts of climate change, including
- High unemployment rates among women and youth
- Rise in sea level and salt water intrusion into the Nile Delta
- Soil degradation and pollution which are reducing productivity of agriculture
