UNDP in Armenia continues investing in the future of young people through the project “Unleashing Employment and Income Generating Opportunities for Youth in the Regions of Armenia.”
As part of this initiative, UNDP, in close partnership with the “Aren Mehrabyan” Charitable Foundation, has launched the fifth series of four-month training courses focused on IT skills that are in high demand in today’s labor market. The program provides advanced training in Node.js (backend development) and React.js (frontend development) to 70 young people, with particular attention to regional youth, including conflict-affected individuals and refugees.
The program is co-funded by UNDP and the Foundation, reflecting a shared commitment to inclusive and sustainable development. Through a 50/50 cost-sharing model, UNDP and the Foundation are expanding access to free, high-quality, non-formal education, particularly for vulnerable youth in Armenia’s regions. “Our mission is to empower youth with practical skills that meet the demands of the modern labor market. With the support of UNDP, we are expanding opportunities for young people to build sustainable careers in the IT sector.”,” said Satik Nairyan, Deputy Director of the “Aren Mehrabyan” Charitable Foundation at the opening ceremony.
Implemented through a non-formal education model, the training combines online and in-person learning, offering hands-on projects, interactive workshops, and mentorship opportunities. Participants will also benefit from a dedicated module on Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, enabling them to gain practical exposure to emerging technologies and expand their career prospects.
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to design and develop modern web applications using technologies such as Node.js, React.js, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and Express. Graduates will also receive support in accessing employment opportunities, with the Foundation tracking job placement outcomes.
Since 2022, UNDP has already supported 204 young people to complete IT training programs, with 95% of participants confirming the relevance and effectiveness of the courses assuring strong pathways to employment and internships in the tech sector.
“Investing in digital skills is essential to unlocking opportunities for young people and fostering innovation-driven growth in Armenia. Together, we are building a more inclusive, technology-driven, and future-ready workforce in Armenia,” mentioned Karine Simonyan, UNDP Project Manager.
The “Unleashing Employment and Income Generating Opportunities for Youth in the Regions of Armenia” project is implemented with the financial support of the Russian Federation.
