This training is to enhance understanding of the intersections of LGBTI rights and the world of business among the business community. Our focus is on addressing challenges faced by LGBTQI+ individuals in the workplace, including lack of comprehensive policies, limited awareness, fear of coming out, and the need for inclusive benefits and facilities.
The workshop will blend theory with practical guidance to enable companies to develop skills and strategies to better align their policies and practices with international standards. The United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs), Gender Guidance on UNGPs and the Standards of Conduct for Business: Tackling Discrimination against Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans, & Intersex People will provide guidance and a framework of analysis for participants.
This training is designed to address the vital role businesses play in promoting gender equality, equity, and justice. As underscored in the Gender Dimensions of the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP Gender Guidance), we must consider the unique challenges faced by women, girls, and members of the LGBTI community in business operations. Our workshop seeks to capacitate business representatives with the knowledge and skills to foster a gender-inclusive work environment.
The program will include sessions on understanding the UNGPs and international normative frameworks like Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), strategies for human rights-based due diligence, and addressing unconscious bias in the workplace. Our objective is to equip participants with tools to analyse and improve gender equality within their organizations and to reflect on biases and stereotypes that contribute to gender-based discrimination.
