In collaboration with the University of Bahrain (UOB), UNDP has launched a pioneering academic program integrating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into university curricula. This unique initiative offers students the opportunity to engage with sustainable development concepts in a structured academic setting.

The program introduces SDG-focused content into English courses for first-year students, alongside specialized courses in sciences and law. Students completing these courses will receive dual certifications from UOB and UNDP, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to tackle global sustainability challenges and contribute to Bahrain’s sustainable development agenda.

Speaking at the launch event, Mrs. Jehan AlMurbati, UNDP Bahrain Head of Office a.i., highlighted the significance of this collaboration, emphasizing the program’s role in empowering youth as agents of change. She noted that integrating SDGs into higher education not only provides theoretical knowledge but also builds practical capacities for impactful action. She praised the strong partnership between UNDP and UOB, which reflects their shared commitment to advancing innovation and sustainability in the Kingdom.

Dr. Fuad Mohammed Alansari, President of UOB, echoed these sentiments, describing the program as a vital step in fostering human capital development and addressing pressing global issues. He emphasized the university’s dedication to preparing students to innovate solutions that align with the SDGs, ensuring that the program equips them to face complex challenges such as climate change and social inequalities.
