the role of women in the green transition

As part of the of SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) Week, a conference entitled "Gendergy" was held at the Europe House in Sarajevo, dedicated to highlighting the role of women in the energy sector. This event marks the culmination of three thematic meetings organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, within the framework of the Green Economic Development (GED) project funded by Sweden.

The conference aimed to highlight the key role of women as drivers of innovation and change in the green transition in BiH – a key path towards addressing the challenges posed by climate change. The event brought together energy experts, representatives of institutions, international and non-governmental organizations, and members of the academic community, who engaged in a panel discussion on advancing gender equality in the energy sector and expanding women's participation in this critical area for sustainable development.

The central theme of the conference was the value of cross-sectoral collaboration in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s green transition, highlighting the importance of integrating women’s perspectives into decision-making processes in the energy sector. This partnership-led approach is essential to fostering an inclusive and efficient energy transition.

The conference highlighted the transformative power of women’s leadership in accelerating the implementation of sustainable energy solutions, paving the way for a more inclusive and resilient energy future in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
