The South African Development Community (SADC) consists of 16 Southern African countries and has been in existence since 1980 (Figure 1). SADC was created with the goal of further socio-economic cooperation and integration, as well as political and
security cooperation among its member countries. SADC is a free trade area, meaning that its Members have eliminated most tariffs to the importation of products from other members, and are making efforts to reduce non-tariff barriers such as undue customs delays, reduction of frictions due
to standards, etc. SADC member countries include, Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South
Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
