United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrived in Beijing today to kick off a four-day official visit to China. Mr. Ban commenced his visit by sending his first greeting to the Chinese public through the UN official account on WeChat, which has had over 300,000 subscribers since it was launched by Mr. Ban on 14 June.
This particular initiative will see the UN boost its social media presence in China, as the country is home to over 513 million active internet users. During the Secretary-General’s visit, people will be able to submit questions to him via the UN WeChat account as part of an ongoing Q&A session. Answers to a number of questions will be released on a daily basis as the visit progresses.
“Let’s ‘chat’ for a better world,” said Mr. Ban.
