Objectives
The Connecting Arts event aimed to bring together Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot artists and artist-academics, to meet and connect, to create a space where they would be able to share their work as well as create new ties for those who do not know each other. - Performing Arts (Theatre, dance, performance)
- Fine Arts
- Music
- Cinema
- Folk Art
- Literature
Results
The "Connecting Arts" networking event was organized at the Chateau Status Restaurant on the 30th of June. The event was for artists and art support systems in Cyprus The event was attended by around 60 artists and was divided into six thematic tables: Music, Literature, Performing Arts, Cinema, Folk Art, and Fine Arts.
Facilitators (3 Greek Cypriot and 3 Turkish Cypriot) were assigned to each thematic area to coordinate the workshops / networking sessions and guide discussions to support participants in understanding their needs, challenges and strengthen/create new bonds during the event. Through these focus group discussions, artists and artist-academics were able to become acquainted with other artists working in the same thematic area. The thematic tables provided a space for participants to share experiences, challenges, and ideas. Participants expressed a desire for more collaboration and exchange between communities and more funding, spaces, and visibility for artists. The Technical Committee on Culture could play a key role in supporting these initiatives.
Facilitators carefully documented perspectives shared during the discussions to, ensure accurate representation in their reports. A comprehensive report documenting the core of the engagements, discussions, and expert recommendations was prepared, which could serve a valuable reference for upcoming cultural endeavours. This activity also served as an idea generation workshop for the Technical Committee on Culture, as different suggestions from the participants were recorded for future suggested activities.
These sessions provided a platform for meaningful exchanges, fostering connections and a deeper understanding of the diverse artistic landscape in Cyprus. The event culminated in a closing ceremony and a lively performance by local musicians from both communities.
