Results

The theme of the competition and workshop was 'Cultural-Heritage sites of the island of Cyprus'. The aim of this was to encourage children and youth to engage with listed cultural heritage sites. A list of 22 cultural heritage sites previously restored by the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage were selected.

Two open calls were announced calling for a drawing and video submissions competition. The drawing competition was open for children between 11-14 years old, while the video competition was open to youth between 15-18 years. Drawing competition participants were asked to create a drawing inspired by one of the listed cultural heritage sites. Whereas video competition participants were asked to create an up to 3-minute audio-visual documentary that focused on one of the listed cultural heritage sites.

The open call was disseminated through social media, summer schools, NGO/Youth Organizations, art teachers and other platforms.

Two six-member juries were formed, two of which were members from the Technical Committee on Culture. This jury was consulted while determining the evaluation criteria.

Through this action the Technical Committee on Culture supported in instilling an understanding towards the importance and maintenance of culture heritage sites among younger generations. Both communities allocate substantial resources through local, international and/or EU funded projects to conserve and maintain cultural heritage cites in Cyprus. By bringing students from both communities together under these kinds of activities not only promote communication and understanding among them, but also increase awareness to cultural heritage sites among young generations. This aims to inspire youth to see these sites as common heritage of Cyprus - sites not of one community, but of the whole island.
