The Argentine insurance industry is positioned as a fundamental engine to boost economic growth, promote job creation and strengthen financial stability at both the business and family levels. 

Both the Argentine Chamber of Insurtech (Cámara Argentina de Insurtech) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) recognize the strategic importance of collaborating in the creation of tools that promote and strengthen this vital sector for the national economy. 

We have joined forces with the firm purpose of contributing to the sustainable growth of the insurance market, through the creation of the "Argentine Market Observatory of Insurtech and Inclusive Insurance". This initiative represents an example of collaboration and joint work between two entities committed to the sustainable development of the country. 

The main objective of the observatory is to provide an independent, transparent and collaborative space that collects, analyzes and disseminates relevant and reliable information about the insurance sector, with a focus on technological innovation and financial inclusion. 

UNDP launched the Human Development Report 2021/2022 entitled " Uncertain Times, Unsettled Lives: Shaping our Future in a Transforming World". It highlights that through responses focused on investment, insurance and innovation (technological, economic and cultural) resilience and prosperity can be achieved. Insurance and insurtechs play a critical role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), protecting the progress made and mitigating future crises. 

We are convinced that the establishment of this unique tool in Argentina will serve to achieve a more inclusive, innovative and sustainable insurance market, for the benefit of the entire Argentine society, leaving no one behind. Among the functions of the observatory are: 

• Collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data on a regular basis to promote financial inclusion and sustainable development in the insurance sector.
• Generate a repository of up-to-date information on the insurtech ecosystem and inclusive insurance in Argentina, in order to identify needs, opportunities and challenges. 
• Serve as a guide for insurers in the development of proposals that promote the expansion of the offer of coverage for neglected sectors. 
• Provide statistical and impartial information to government agencies to contribute to increasing policy issuance and insurance penetration in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
• Encourage debate on barriers, needs and incentives for the development of insurtech activity and inclusive insurance. 
• To evaluate the impact of insurance activity on employment, investment, dissemination of insurance culture and financial inclusion, taking into account the gender perspective. 

About the Insurance and Risk Finance Facility (IRFF)

UNDP is scaling up its work on risk finance and insurance globally, creating the Insurance and Risk Finance Facility (IRFF) within the Sustainable Finance Hub, to provide technical support to UNDP country offices and national partners around the world. 

This flagship initiative encompasses a variety of critical areas where insurance and risk transfer solutions and collaboration with the industry can contribute significantly to the achievement and fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by addressing issues of inclusive insurance, sovereign risk financing, the role of the insurance sector in the investment sector, natural capital, health, SME development and others.
