New development models to build
“The true wealth of a country lies in its people” (UNDP, 1990). Colombia’s greatest wealth is found in the diversity of its people, cultures, and extraordinary ecosystems. With two oceans—the Atlantic and Pacific—the biogeographic Chocó, its rivers, tributaries, wetlands, and biological corridors like the jaguar corridor and the Amazon, Colombia is a place of contrasts that serves as a literary inspiration.
The country’s economic, social, political, and environmental achievements throughout the 21st century coexist with significant inherited inequalities, which hinder the inclusion of many populations and vast territories in the benefits of human development, limiting their opportunities to lead dignified, fulfilling, and free lives.
