It is both an honor and a privilege to address you today at this pivotal event. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Minister of Justice of the Kingdom of Morocco for spearheading this initiative, which brings us together to explore the role of digital transformation in creating an efficient and inclusive justice system. This conference presents a unique opportunity to engage with comparative experiences and share the commendable practices developed in Morocco.

A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the Ministry of Justice and UNDP to embark on a comprehensive and deep reform of the justice system. Globally, the reinforcement of the rule of law and justice stands at the forefront of UNDP's priorities, reflecting over two decades of dedication in this area. Indeed, justice is recognized as a catalyst for sustainable development. Acknowledged as an SDG in its own right, it is also seen as pivotal in achieving other SDGs and in fulfilling the 2030 Agenda as a whole.

In Morocco, UNDP's engagement spans various sectors, including the reinforcement of judicial institutions, the promotion of human rights, and the enhancement of access to justice. The adoption of a new Constitution in 2011, which upholds universally recognized human rights, marks Morocco's commitment to establishing a modern state grounded in democracy and the rule of law. I commend Morocco on its significant progress and reaffirm UNDP's dedication to supporting its continued advancement.

The New Development Model (NDM) and the Governmental Declaration of Morocco echo this commitment, aiming to balance a robust state apparatus with a vibrant, responsible society, where justice is both modern and protective of rights and freedoms. The UNDP's "Justice and Rule of Law" program aligns with these national priorities, contributing to the realization of the King's vision for justice reform.

The integration of digital technology in justice processes, as evidenced during the Covid-19 pandemic, is not merely about maintaining continuity; it is about transforming the delivery of justice to be faster, more efficient, transparent, and accessible. The challenges ahead lie in mastering these technologies while addressing new questions, particularly those related to artificial intelligence, ensuring the protection of privacy, data, and fundamental rights.

Ladies and gentlemen,

UNDP is resolutely committed to leveraging digital technology to expedite development and achieve the SDGs, including enhancing access to justice. The presence of our global Rule of Law team, our Chief Digital Officer, and colleagues from various countries where e-Justice initiatives are being implemented, underscores our collective readiness to tackle these challenges.

Our collaboration aims not only to modernize the justice system but also to identify and develop solutions that serve the interests of all Moroccans, particularly the most vulnerable, ensuring equitable and effective access to justice. Morocco's dedication to promoting the rule of law and ensuring equal justice for all is a testament to our shared goals and the UNDP's strategic plan for 2022-2025 and the broader 2030 Agenda.

As we navigate this ever-evolving world, the exchange of knowledge and experiences is invaluable. It fosters the improvement of practices and the spread of innovative solutions, paving the way for regional and international collaboration.
