The feasibility assessment examines the ways to introduce the weather index-based flood insurance in the Rioni River Basin. In the vast majority of cases, the costs of physical damage and financial losses from river flooding are readily insurable in the commercial market. The availability of insurance cover can be an important element in the overall approach to flood risk management. 

The assessment was carried out in February 2015 with support of the United Nations Development Programme and Adaptation Fund.
