UNDP and Government of Guinea-Bissau Present Human Development Report 2023-2024

A call to reinvigorate international cooperation in a polarized world and on how to continue investing in human development in Guinea-Bissau

Bissau, Guinea-Bissau – The office of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Guinea-Bissau, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Integration Regional, launched the Human Development Report 2023-2024 "Breaking the Gridlock: Reimagining cooperation in a polarized world". The report calls for the urgent need to redirect our global course, emphasizing cooperation over conflict to overcome common challenges and achieve truly sustainable development.
The event was attended by key figures, including the Minister of National Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Herry Mané; the European Union Ambassador to Guinea-Bissau, Artis Bertulis; and the Ambassador of Portugal to Guinea-Bissau, Miguel Cruz Silvestre, as well as members of the diplomatic representatives and members from the private sector, academia, and civil society.

The UNDP Representative in Guinea-Bissau, Ms. Alessandra Casazza, highlighted key initiatives such as the National Blue Economy Strategy and its Investment Plan, developed with support from UNDP. “The solutions to our global challenges are within our reach,” said Casazza. "By rethinking cooperation to adapt it to today's world, we can make significant progress towards sustainable development."

The Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Integration, Dr. Soares Sambu, emphasized the resilience and commitment of the Guinea-Bissau government to face economic challenges, even with limited resources. "Despite the difficulties, we are always at the forefront of responding to challenges, working with international partners such as the IMF and the World Bank to strengthen the health of our public finances," declared the minister.
