4 September, New Delhi: Dr. Angela Lusigi, the newly appointed Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in India, yesterday officially presented her credentials to the Ministry of External Affairs today. In a meeting with Mr. Tanmaya Lal, Secretary (West), Ministry of External Affairs, Dr. Lusigi expressed her gratitude for India’s enduring partnership with UNDP and commended the country’s leadership in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Dr. Lusigi, who took office on 8 July, highlighted India’s pivotal role in driving global progress toward the 2030 Agenda. "India’s strides in sustainable development, particularly in public healthcare, climate action, and inclusive growth, are exemplary. The nation’s innovative use of digital technology to enhance health service delivery and expand social protection, which UNDP is proud to support, is ensuring that no one is left behind," she said.

During the ceremony, Dr. Lusigi also highlighted the strong interest from countries in learning from India’s example in areas such as SDG localization and acceleration, SDG Finance and South-South Cooperation. She reaffirmed UNDP’s dedication to supporting these efforts through the UNDP Country Programme 2023-27, which is tailored to bolster India's national priorities and global commitments.

The UNDP Country Programme 2023-27 is intricately aligned with India’s Fifteen Year Vision (2017-2032), Seven Year Strategy (2017-2024), and Three Year Action Agenda (2017-2020), as well as the Government of India-UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2023-27 and UNDP’s Global Strategic Plan 2022-25.

Prior to her appointment in India, Dr. Lusigi served as the UNDP Resident Representative in Ghana and was a Strategic Advisor in the UNDP Regional Bureau for Africa in New York since 2012.
