Meeting between the UNDP Resident Representative in Kazakhstan, the Ambassador of Japan to Kazakhstan, and Deputy Akim of the Mangystau region.
Today, the UNDP Resident Representative in Kazakhstan, Katarzyna Wawiernia, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Kazakhstan, Jun Yamada, jointly visited the Mangystau region. The visit included meetings with Deputy Akim of the region, Abbat Urisbayev, as well as with beneficiaries of a regional UNDP initiative funded by the Government of Japan and aimed at promoting resilient communities to prevent violent extremism in Central Asia.
During the meeting with Deputy Akim Urisbayev, discussions focused on UNDP’s activities in Kazakhstan, with particular attention to local development efforts. The UNDP Resident Representative highlighted key initiatives implemented under the joint UNDP and Government of Japan programme. The parties agreed to continue cooperating to accelerate sustainable development across the region.
Presentation of creative projects and startups.
Katarzyna Wawiernia and Jun Yamada also met with participants in the entrepreneurship and creative industries development programme in Mangystau, where participants showcased their successful projects and startups. Furthermore, the delegation visited enterprises engaged in the internship programme, which employs youth from socially vulnerable backgrounds. Among these are the children’s health center Bope Time, the waste recycling company Taza Like, and the furniture company Idal'go.
Through this visit, the delegation gained insights into the achievements of the joint cross-border initiative and the region’s ongoing development. These observations will help strengthen future support for sustainable communities in Mangystau and beyond.
