United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kazakhstan, in partnership with the Frederick S. Pardee International Futures Institute at the University of Denver (USA), has conducted a comprehensive study aimed at creating targeted scenarios and forecasts for the medium- and long-term development of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

On 19 December 2024 UNDP hosted consultations with key national partners as the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms, Ministry of National Economy, “Economic Research Institute” JSC and national experts engaged in macroeconomic modeling and forecasting. These consultations were aimed at validation the study’s findings and discuss the policy recommendations derived from the research. The collaborative discussions will play a pivotal role in refining strategies to address the country’s development challenges and opportunities.

The study integrates key elements from the National Development Plan until 2029, along with other strategic and programmatic documents, ensuring alignment with the country's development priorities and reforms. By leveraging advanced modeling tools and methodologies, this initiative aims to provide a robust analytical foundation to support evidence-based policymaking and strategic planning.

The study was well received by national partners and experts, who praised its innovative and comprehensive approach. It addressed multiple interventions, including the economy, human capital, environment, and governance, while also presenting an integrated scenario that encompasses the combined impact of all four areas.

Projections indicate that, in the long run, growth in key macroeconomic indicators for Kazakhstan will initially be driven by economic interventions during the first decade. Governance will become the primary driver in the second decade, with human development emerging as the key catalyst for progress in the years that follow.

Today meeting underscores UNDP’s commitment to supporting Kazakhstan’s sustainable development agenda and enhancing the country’s resilience in an evolving global landscape.
