The world of technology and digitization has brought us accelerated technological growth, access to the Internet and a completely new view of the world. This process also brought with it one big problem, the phenomenon known as "Fake News". There are so many fake news and misinformation that it is hard to distinguish them from the truth. UNDP came up with the idea to support young people who will work, in all languages, and gain knowledge in many newsrooms. UNDP has engaged 10 UN volunteers, with our young journalists being stationed on the front lines of resistance against fake news. All of them come from different backgrounds and have learnt, during their journey, about real journalism and the importance of truth in the media.

These young journalists are agents of positive change in society. Their excitement and drive make valuable things happen within their communities. By involving them, we tackle problems and help them grow along with their communities, as they understand the danger that derives from the phenomenon of fake news, misinformation and disinformation. With guidance and teamwork with their editors and other journalists, they are able to see difficulties of this profession, and how it is for one media outlet to fight disinformation.

We, at UNDP, remember their faces on the first day of their journey: apprehensive and a bit scared of the challenges they will need to face. However, after a year of internship, we can clearly see their professional development and self-confidence. What is even more amazing, and we are very proud of this development - is that all of them will continue working in journalism.
