Press Conference
Kuwait - United Nations House, 5 June World Environment Day is UN's most important day when global awareness and action for the protection of our environment is widely pronoted.
Since it began in 1974, WED has become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries. Each World Environment Day is organized around a theme that focuses attention on a particularly pressing environmental concern. The theme for 2018 is on beating plastic pollution. Tons of plastic debris, which by definition is waste that varies in size from large containers, fishing nets to microscopic plastic pellets or even particles, is discarded every year everywhere, polluting lands, rivers, coastlines, beaches and oceans. In Kuwait, beach littering with plastic is a major issue facing the marine environment. Tons of plastic are often removed in concerted efforts to organize beach clean ups.
