Alexandra Solovieva became the new UNDP Resident Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic

29 August 2023, Bishkek – Ms. Alexandra Solovieva presented her credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Jeenbek Kulubaev as the new Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Kyrgyz Republic. In her new role, Alexandra Solovieva will strengthen the strategic partnership between UNDP and the Kyrgyz Republic within the framework of national development strategies and priorities along with the UNDP Country Programme and the Strategic Plan. 

Minister Kulubaev noted the high level of cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and UNDP in the humanitarian, socio-economic, financial, and technical fields, where UNDP has an impact on Kyrgyzstan. At the same time, he stressed the importance of further joint implementation of the UN resolution “Sustainable Mountain Development” initiated by the Kyrgyz Republic and declared 2023-2027 the “Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountainous regions.”

As we embark on this journey together, and on the occasion of Kyrgyzstan's Independence Day, I extend my warmest congratulations to the people of Kyrgyzstan. I wish for continued prosperity, peace, and harmony for the nation. My focus during my tenure as UNDP Resident Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic will be on strengthening the strategic collaboration between UNDP and the Kyrgyz Republic to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals within the framework of national priorities and the UNSDCF, focusing on green growth, climate change, and governance. I look forward to contributing to the country's progress and building integrated, lasting development solutions for the well-being of its people and the country," – said Alexandra Solovieva, UNDP Resident Representative to the Kyrgyz Republic.”

In collaboration with key stakeholders and development partners, UNDP undertakes substantial measures to address the pressing issues of climate change and biodiversity loss. Leveraging resources in climate and nature finance, UNDP works to establish public-private partnerships that facilitate innovative approaches and technologies. By catalyzing novel strategies and solutions, and facilitating international knowledge and expertise, UNDP directly supports Kyrgyzstan in effectively addressing these challenges and achieving the SDGs.

UNDP focuses on policy actions and the improvement of a favorable environment for green finance. UNDP actively assists the Government and people of Kyrgyz Republic by strengthening national capacities for improving national and local governance and justice systems, fostering meaningful civic engagement for inclusive decision-making and social cohesion. 

Before taking up her role in Kyrgyzstan, Ms. Solovieva served as the UNDP Resident Representative in the Republic of Belarus, where she provided integrated support for SDG achievement and promoted sustainable human development. 

Alexandra Solovieva brings a wealth of expertise, gained from various roles within the United Nations system. Her experience encompasses green economic transition, climate and environment resource management, digital transformation, gender equality, and health system strengthening.

Her previous positions include Chief of the External Relations and Communications Section at the United Nations Volunteers, Deputy Country Director (Programme) at UNDP in the Republic of India, and several roles at UNDP Headquarters.
