As digital technologies continue to evolve, so too must governance institutions. Digital technology can have a transformative effect in making representative assemblies more connected, effective, transparent, accountable and accessible. Assemblies that harness the power of the new digital tools can engage those they represent in ways that were hard to imagine in the past.

Established in 2015, the 18 Provincial People’s Assemblies are young and diverse institutions that are beginning a journey of digital transformation. From 20 – 21 May 2024, an Innovation Conference brought knowledge and talent from international and national experts, the National Assembly and 18 Provincial People’s Assemblies to connect and exchange on digital innovations and best practices. It is the first of a series of events bringing together senior officials to learn ICT innovations and exchange knowledge and expertise on the use of ICT. For the Assemblies in Laos, such exchanges are important elements of becoming more effective, responsive, and resilient institutions.
