1st Meeting: Entrepreneurship and its potential for advancing AI in Latin America
November 7, 2024
The "Artificial Intelligence and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean Discussion Group" explores the transformative potential of AI to advance sustainable growth and inclusive development across the region. Hosted by UNDP, ECLAC, and UNESCO, this inaugural meeting brought together leaders from government, civil society, and the private sector to discuss AI’s role in addressing regional challenges, such as economic stagnation, limited access to healthcare, and education disparities.
With a focus on entrepreneurship and innovative financing, participants examined the region's strengths—such as its youthful, urbanized population and emerging startup ecosystems—while addressing barriers like infrastructure gaps, digital inequality, and the skills shortage.
The event concluded with a call to action to procure coordinated efforts across sectors to create an ethical, inclusive AI ecosystem that supports equitable growth and positions Latin America and the Caribbean as a competitive player in the global AI landscape.
