Hydropower from non-River sources – The potential in Lebanon
Hydropower from non-River sources – The potential in Lebanon
October 21, 2014
Lebanon used to generate more than 60-70% of its power from hydro-power sources prior to the 1960s. Today, this power is down to less than 5% at most.
A national assessment of the non-river hydropower potential from public utilities and networks in Lebanon was launched by CEDRO, in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Water. At least four non-conventional sources were examined; (1) Irrigation channels and conveyers, (2) water treatment plants inlet and outfall pipes, (3) electrical power plants outfall pipes, and the (4) water distribution network.
