Kuching, 26 March 2025: Working together across various ministries and agencies, the Government of Sarawak is taking a decisive step towards building resilient and future-ready cities in embarking on the Sarawak Urban Development Policy (SUDP).

This initiative seeks to develop an integrated Urban Development Policy for Sarawak, establishing a sustainable urban development strategy involving multiple sectors that is clear in direction and effective in implementation. Under the leadership of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development (MUDeNR), the SUDP seeks to provide a clear and actionable macro-level policy to coordinate planning, investment, and decision-making across the urban sector.

The inaugural SUDP Project Steering Committee Meeting, held today and co-chaired by UNDP and MUDeNR, marked the formal beginning of a cross-sectoral collaboration that will set the foundation for the policy development. The outcome of the policy is to ensure that urban development is managed in a sustainable, inclusive and resilient manner that benefits all residents, including vulnerable and marginalised communities in Sarawak.
