Economic Value of Ecosystem Services of the Taman Negara National Park, Royal Belum State Park and Endau-Rompin National Park

July 9, 2023

The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) reports under the UNDP-supported GEF-financed project titled Enhancing Effectiveness and Financial Sustainability of Protected Areas in Malaysia provide a comprehensive assessment of the total economic value through site-level economic valuation exercise of Taman Negara National Park, Royal Belum State Park and Endau-Rompin National Park.

The results showed that the natural capital of Taman Negara National Park, Royal Belum State Park and Endau-Rompin National Park deliver a wide range of ecosystem services that have a high economic value at approximately RM1.7 billion, RM531 million and RM 428 million, annually. The assessments provide an evidence base and insights into policy considerations for increased future financing and strategic investments for conservation and expansion of terrestrial protected area systems in Peninsular Malaysia.
