Twenty-first-century challenges, such as preparing societies for the future of work, ensuring digital inclusion, and accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy, necessitate 21st-century solutions. We can only achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - to protect people and the planet - by 2030 if we think outside the box, are adaptable in our approach, and use cutting-edge tools, platforms, and services. Fostering innovation is critical to accelerating the solutions required to confront development challenges and shape a future that is sustainable, equitable, and inclusive.

Our Accelerator Lab

The UNDP Maldives Accelerator Lab is part of UNDP’s Global Accelerator Labs Network of 91 labs in 115 countries. Accelerator Labs are part of UNDP’s drive to be an incubator for the future. To accelerate progress towards the 2030 Agenda, we need to be fast and curious. The Accelerator Labs are designed to close the gap between the current practices of international development in an accelerated pace of change. They model a new capability to make breakthroughs on the future of development: inequality, decarbonization, the 4th industrial revolution and new forms of governance.

The Maldives Accelerator Lab aims to become the country's innovation hub for doing development differently and provide national partners with a set of new services to better tackle complex sustainable development problems.  The Maldives Accelerator Lab will be a space to:

• Bring national development ecosystem actors, including grassroots innovators, local and central government and private sector together.
• Identify and elevate the reach and impact of grassroots solutions and innovators.
• Co-design and test the next generation of public policies and development solutions in the country.
