Learning Exposure Visit to the Philippines
Maldives | February 12, 2025 – A delegation from the Maldives, supported by the UK in Maldives and UNDP Maldives, concluded a Learning Exposure Visit to the Philippines from February 8-11, 2025. The visit aimed to strengthen open governance practices, focusing on transparency, accountability, and citizen participation.
Led by Honourable Adam Shareef Umar, LGA Board President and Minister of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works (MoCLP), the delegation included representatives from the Local Government Authority (LGA), UNDP Maldives, and local councils. The visit was part of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Asia-Pacific Regional Dialogue, highlighting the role of local governments in advancing open governance.
Learning from Best Practices
The delegation met with Muntinlupa City Mayor, Ruffy Biazon, and engaged with local officials to explore best practices in transparent governance. Discussions focused on enhancing public participation, improving service delivery, and leveraging technology for accountability. These insights will help strengthen local governance in the Maldives, empowering communities to actively participate in decision-making.
A Collaborative Effort
The visit emphasized the importance of collaboration in promoting open governance. The UK in Maldives and UNDP Maldives have been key partners in supporting local governments to champion transparency and citizen participation.
