The GEF-7 ISLANDS project through the generous funding from the Global Environment Facility, was signed at the World Environment Day celebrations in Fuvahmulah City, between the Ministry of Environment the United Nations Development Programme in the Maldives.

UNDP Resident Representative Enrico Gaveglia with Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology at the signing ceremony. Complication of the new GEF-7 ISLANDS project will ensure the sound management of over 500 tonnes of hazardous wastes in the Maldives.

The new project will build upon our ongoing efforts - to reduce the risk of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and hazardous chemicals on human health and the environment. By the end of the projects, the sound management of over 500 tonnes of hazardous wastes is envisioned.
