
Collaborative efforts to enhance agriculture and food security in the Maldives
Maldives | [January 30, 2025] – Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources, Hon. Dr. Maryam Mariya, and Special Envoy for Climate Change, Hon. Ali Shareef, along with their team, met with Enrico Gaveglia, UNDP Resident Representative, and the UNDP Maldives team to discuss collaborative efforts to enhance agriculture and food security in the Maldives.
The meeting focused on reviewing ongoing projects and exploring new opportunities for partnership between UNDP and the Ministry of Agriculture. Key discussions revolved around strategies to strengthen food security, build resilience in the agricultural sector, and promote sustainable and innovative farming practices.
Both parties emphasized the importance of working together to address challenges in the agricultural sector, particularly in the face of climate change and economic vulnerabilities. The collaboration aims to support the Maldives in achieving greater self-sufficiency, improving livelihoods, and ensuring a sustainable future for its people.
