More than 100 children, including refugees from Ukraine, will benefit from improved access to educational and medical services and facilities at the newly renovated Ceadîr-Lunga kindergarten Nr. 4, thanks to UNDP financial support.

Over 740 square meters of the two-story building underwent a complete thermal insulation, while its façade was repainted by a local artist with a helping hand from the children themselves. Previously unused balconies will be enclosed with glass windows, renovated and transformed into a sports area and a winter garden where children will be able to grow plants.

“These interventions extend beyond mere infrastructure upgrading, as apart from improving conditions and well-being for the children and staff, they also contribute to reducing energy costs and minimizing their impact on the environment,” said Daniela Gasparikova, UNDP Resident Representative to the Republic of Moldova.

The energy efficiency enhancement interventions are expected to reduce the costs for thermal-energy by about 30%.

New furniture and technical equipment was purchased for renovated medical and speech therapist cabinets.

"We are extremely pleased and grateful for the successful completion of this renovation project at our kindergarten. With UNDP support, we have improved the building's insulation, added beautiful artwork to the facade, and upgraded important equipment. The atmosphere in the building is refreshed and children are more excited than ever,” stated Elena Constantinova, director of the Ceadîr-Lunga kindergarten Nr. 4.

For these interventions, UNDP allocated US$34,000 while the municipality co-funded with another $31,000.

“With the support of UNDP Moldova and its partners, several infrastructure objects were renovated in our region and we highly appreciate this. Two kindergartens have been renovated, since the conditions in which children spend their childhood and get their education are very important for their future and should be among the priorities of the authorities at all levels,” mentioned Anatoli Topal, mayor of Ceadîr-Lunga.

Ceadîr-Lunga municipality is supported by the European Union and UNDP as part of the “Mayors for Economic Growth” (M4EG) initiative to build a portfolio in the field of energy transition. Recently, “Sălcioara” kindergarten has also benefited from energy efficiency measures, thanks to the EU and UNDP.

With EU and UNDP support, hundreds of street lighting fixtures will be replaced so they can be charged with solar energy. Two pedestrian crossings in the city will also be lit with solar energy and future plans include changing the lights of eight more pedestrian crossings, thus improving visibility and reducing the number of road accidents involving pedestrians.

UNDP and France have funded energy efficiency solutions for public institutions in four Moldovan localities hosting refugees: Tudora, Mihăileni, Cotiujenii Mari and Chirsova.  At the same time, UNDP has offered financing for two other communities, Sireți and Sipoteni, to expand access for local residents, including refugees, to healthcare and social services.
