The Cahul region in southern Moldova is recognized not only for its landscapes but also for its culinary traditions. Here, authentic recipes are handed down from generation to generation, many becoming local businesses appreciated by locals and tourists from all over the world. Whether it's freshly baked bread, soft dough pizzas or traditional dishes, Cahul is well worth trying.

Cahulpan - Bread tradition 

JSC “Cahulpan” is the largest bread factory in the south of the country, appreciated for its bakery products, confectionery and soft drinks. The factory was established in 1946 and the bread baked in Cahulpan has crossed borders, reaching people's tables in Romania, Greece, Ukraine, France and Germany.

Pizzeria “Augusto” - Italy in Cahul

The best Italian pizza is not only to be found in its country of origin, but also here at home in the Republic of Moldova, at Pizzeria Augusto in Cahul. The dough is made to a unique recipe and the ingredients, from the cheese to the finest toppings, are all local, guaranteeing an explosion of flavours with every bite.

Tanti Mașa is famous for her unique sweets made from figs, elderflowers, acacia, cherry tomatoes and much more. Each jar is an explosion of flavors, reminiscent of the tastes of yesteryear and mouth-watering.

The “EU4Moldova: Focal regions” Programme (2019-2024) supports intelligent, inclusive and sustainable social-economic development in the regions of Cahul and Ungheni to ensure better standards of living to the citizens. The programme has a total budget of 23 million EUR, it is funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
