Empowering Women Through Skills: MRF Supports Vocational Training in Zambézia

February 20, 2025

The Mozambique Recovery Facility (MRF) continues to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities through livelihood support and infrastructure rehabilitation. As part of its efforts, MRF has been implementing vocational training programs in Zambézia province, equipping youth with skills for sustainable income generation.

In Nicoadala district, Nilza (22) and Alçasia (18) are among the 220 beneficiaries who have received training in Cutting and Sewing. With MRF’s support, they are now developing their technical skills, enabling them to start their own businesses and contribute to their families’ economic well-being.

This initiative is part of a broader livelihoods intervention under MRF, which has benefited over 5,500 households across Quelimane, Nicoadala, Maganja da Costa, Namacurra, and Mopeia. The program has provided:

  • 5,003 beneficiaries with seeds and agricultural inputs
  • 120 beneficiaries supported in cassava production
  • 2 irrigation systems installed
  • 47 individuals trained in fish tank management
  • 70 bicycles distributed
  • 4,800 people engaged in savings groups
  • 120 sweet potato fields established
  • 1,800 ducks delivered for poultry farming

The vocational training program is playing a vital role in economic empowerment, particularly for young women, by providing them with essential skills to create sustainable livelihoods. MRF’s work would not be possible without the generous support of its donors. A special thanks to the donors of the MRF Basket Fund: European Union, Canada, Finland, Netherlands, India, China and Norway.

With their continued support, more individuals will gain the opportunity to rebuild their lives, ensuring a stronger, more resilient future for communities in Zambézia.
