SUNRED - Sustainable Management of Natural Resources

The objective of improving the well-being of Mozambique's population, economic growth,  national development achievements and poverty reduction depend to a large extent on the sustainable use of natural resources. Sustainable use of natural resources is also closely linked to climate change mitigation and adaptation. For this reason, the SUNRED project: Sustainable Natural Resource Management for Resilience and Equitable Growth and Development, aims to contribute to the objectives of sustainable development and efficient management of natural resources by supporting the Government in addressing gaps in insufficient coordination capacity, funds and information that have been identified as major hindrances in promoting sustainable development for the most disadvantaged in Mozambique.

Expected Key Achievement

The project will specifically work towards four goals:

  • Consolidation of policies and legal framework for coordinated implementation of sustainable natural resource management for the most vulnerable
  • Better use of science in decision-making based on improving environmental information systems
  • Enable local participation in planning and decision-making processes for sustainability for the most disadvantaged
  • Improved and extensive implementation of sustainability for the disadvantaged through national development programs and budgeting structures
