The UN Country Team will support the participation of representatives of Nepali Civil Society in the 68th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women, organized at United Nations Headquarters in New York from 11-22 March 2024.
The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. A functional commission of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) was established by Council resolution 11(II) of 21 June 1946.
The 68th Session of the CSW will be organized at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York from 11-22 March 2024. Representatives of Member States, UN entities, and ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from all regions of the world are welcome to attend the session.
This year, the priority and review themes of the 68th CSW (2024) are as follows:
• Priority theme: Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective
• Review theme: Social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls (agreed conclusions of the sixty-third session)
The twelve-day session will include a ministerial segment with round tables and other high-level interactive dialogues, a general discussion and a series of interactive events. Stakeholders will organize many side events to draw attention to critical aspects of the work on gender equality. Details are available here .
The UN Country Team (UNCT) in Nepal will coordinate and facilitate the participation of Nepali Civil Society representatives to participate in the 68th Session of the CSW and will support for the maximum of 5 days. Thus, UNCT Nepal invites applications from interested candidates representing diverse Civil Society Organization including youth advocates in Nepal (including those who have already requested the support to UN agencies in Nepal for the 68th session of the CSW). Priority will be given to the applicants who have not received support so far.
To apply for support to attend the 68th Session of the CSW in New York, applicants are expected to submit (1) an updated resume (not exceeding 3 pages), (2) confirmation of the invitation to attend the CSW, and (3) a short essay (maximum 500 words), in English, explaining how the priority theme of this year work is relevant to your work and how you plan to use this opportunity, how this will add value to the ongoing work in relation to the current challenges with the CSW’s current priority theme.
The selection of candidates will be based on the potential to contribute in realizing gender equality, empowerment of women and girls and marginalized groups in connection with Agenda 2030 in Nepal. We encourage the application from diverse civil society working at local, provincial and at federal level.
