New York—The Government of Ireland has contributed USD 8.37 million (EUR 7.75 million) to UNDP's regular (core) resources for 2024. This timely contribution is even more meaningful in light of Ireland's recent commitment to predictable multi-year funding through a Memorandum of Understanding for the period 2024-2025.

In these uncertain times, with numerous protracted crises as well as existing and emerging development challenges, the partnership with Ireland plays a crucial role in enabling UNDP to continue delivering critical support to countries and communities, helping them navigate development challenges even in the face of adversity. This underscores the practical impact of Ireland's commitment to sustainable development solutions.

Ireland’s contribution to flexible funding supports UNDP's work to implement its Strategic Plan 2022-2025 globally. For example, in Malawi, UNDP, supported by the Government of Ireland and other partners, is implementing the Malawi Electoral Support Project (MESP), empowering marginalized groups including women and youth, for inclusive electoral participation. Enabled by core resources, the project is significantly strengthening Malawi's electoral institutions, ensuring transparent and credible elections.

UNDP and Ireland are united in their commitment to tackling gender inequality and poverty, promoting rural development, strengthening accountable and inclusive governance, and building resilience to crises and climate change. This collaborative effort advances efforts to reach the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with the aim of ensuring that no one is left behind. UNDP looks forward to a continued strong partnership with Ireland built on trust and shared value of a better future for all.

In addition to enabling its programmatic work across almost 170 countries, regular (core) resources lay the foundation for UNDP's oversight and accountability functions to ensure that the organization can continue to deliver programmes effectively, efficiently and transparently. UNDP is consistently rated among the most transparent international organizations. For more information: https://www.undp.org/publications/core-resources
