UNDP Kyrgyzstan seeks for volunteers for “Youth Programme 2021”

UNDP Kyrgyzstan seeks for proactive and dedicated young people for intensive collaboration in cross-cutting areas of communication, environment, peace and justice, socioeconomic growth and innovations.

What?

UNDP launches “Youth Programme 2021” to support Communications and Programme Units extending its public visibility through online and offline events, social media and media coverage. For this purpose, young people age of 18 and older with excellent Kyrgyz (or Russian) and English (writing & oral communication skills) will be hired on a volunteering basis for 7 months of collaborative work.

Selected candidates will be assigned to work on fields as following:

  1. Social media management support (2 people)
  2. Event organization and management (both offline and online –2 people)
  3. Translation support (2 people)
  4. Cluster support team (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, Socioeconomic Growth, Environment, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management, and Accelerator Lab Kyrgyzstan – 8 people)

In total, 14-16 volunteers will be selected and assigned to different clusters and tasks. It is expected that 2-3 people will be covering each of the directions. Important to note that work assignment is flexible, and volunteers may be requested to cover other areas than selected ones.

UNDP will conduct induction workshops, capacitate the selected candidates and supervise them to deliver more effective results. At the end of their assignment (December 2021), UNDP will provide certificates of appreciation and recommendation letters acknowledging volunteer’s contribution to the UNDP’s work in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Who?

  1. All applicants must be 18 and older;
  2. All applicants are expected to have excellent spoken and written Kyrgyz (or Russian) and English;
  3. Strong commitment to values and principles of volunteerism & UNDP Kyrgyz Republic;
  4. Prior volunteering and/or working experience is an asset;
  5. Critical Thinker and Innovative mindset. Additional talents (arts, filmmaking, debating, etc.) are added values;
  6. Candidates with a background from ethnic and other social minorities, people with disabilities and LGBT communities are encouraged to apply;

Specific competencies required

SMM support team

  • Excellent knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, Google+ and other social media best practices;
  • Good text writing and editing skills in Kyrgyz and English;
  • Good skills of visualization of posts, articles, publications etc.;
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Good understanding of social media KPIs;
  • Good time-management skills;

Media literacy - capability to apply diverse media channels (social media, press media, informal channels) and to conduct cross-media analysis (analyzing one issue with diverse media/public discourse perspectives).

Event organization and management team

  • Outstanding communication and negotiation ability;
  • Customer-service orientation;
  • A team player with leadership skills;
  • Highly organized;
  • Multi-tasker;
  • Good time management skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Risk management experience;

People skills – capability to effectively engage communication with different stakeholders, to receive feedback and reflect on public opinions. Capability to mitigate/negotiate conflicts in communication and people interaction.

Translations support team

  • Demonstrated good understanding of terms used in areas of international and local development, socioeconomic development, communications;
  • Proven skills in translation and interpretation from and into English and vice versa;
  • Excellent communication skill in both Kyrgyz, Russian and English.
  • Excellent teamwork skills;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Excellent computer skills in Word and Power Point Presentations.

Cluster support team

  • Good understanding of terms and processes used in areas of socioeconomic development, environment, and human rights, access to justice and rule of law;
  • Excellent teamwork skills;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Good time management skills.

AccLab support team

  • Purpose-driven candidates with the strong passion on driving a change!
  • Critical Thinker - Capable of objectively assess diverse media contents, and constructively formulate his/her opinions.
  • Creative Communicator – Thinking outside of a box. Candidates with additional artistic talents, technological skills, or innovative mindset are more welcomed;
  • Sensitivity - Capable of capturing weak signals and diverse public discourses at the grassroots communities. Capable of engaging public debate and reflecting upon the public discourse.
  • People’s skills – capable of working with different stakeholders, especially people from the marginalized groups. Strong negotiation and conflict management skills.
  • Media & Digital literary are added values.
  • Proficient English is the necessary.
  • Research skills – capable of compiling data and information and conducting evidence-based analysis
  • Media & Digital literacy (Tech-savviness) are added values.

 

Workload

Selected candidates will fulfill their tasks under direct supervision of Communications and Programmes Unitы dedicating up to 20 hours / week to the Youth Programme 2021.

UNDP does not pay remuneration for volunteer work, however, offers the unique opportunity of learning in a professional circle on diverse work areas. Candidates, who successfully completed Youth Programme 2021 will be provided with a certificate of appreciation, one reference letter and obtain a preferential applicant status as a mentor for next round of the Programme.
