Enhancing citizens’ knowledge about how to tackle corruption in their communities

UNDP’s signature e-asset declaration system, which contains information about assets of around 1 million public officials in Ukraine, was used as a primary tool for public scrutiny and monitoring of candidates for the presidential and parliament elections, providing evidence of candidates’ integrity.

An electronic verification module developed by UNDP ensured there were efficient and effective automatic checks on over 4.1 million e-asset declarations of Ukrainian public officials. The system placed more than 200,000 declarations in the “high risk” category, cross-comparing the data with other state registries. In 2019, over $16 million in declared assets were found to be inconsistent, and further investigations are ongoing.

Three cities (Integrity Cities) in Ukraine have piloted full corruption risks assessments and are implementing measures in the areas of urban planning, property, land use and public procurement.

More than 150,000 civil servants learned about anti-corruption tools. Online courses developed to expand citizens’ knowledge about anti-corruption tools attracted more than 100,000 active participants to various online educational platforms. The UNDP-developed online course on managing conflicts of interest was ranked globally as the course with the highest completion rate (64 percent).
