The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) China and Phoenix Satellite Television today announced a new strategic partnership to cooperate on advocating sustainable development.

The announcement was made in Beijing where Agi Veres, Country Director of UNDP signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Phoenix Satellite TV, outlining terms of the collaboration to develop a platform as exclusive strategic media partners for the advocacy of development initiatives including raising awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in China and promoting sustainable development of Chinese outbound investment.

Since the launch of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in New York in September 2015, it has been a core objective of UNDP to promote and engage the public with the SDGs. Phoenix TV’s and UNDP will collaborate to promote the SDGs and contributing towards SDG advocacy campaigns to the general public in China through public service announcements, documentaries and social media channels.

As China has become the world’s second largest economy, Chinese enterprises have been assuming an increasingly prominent role overseas, and as such increasingly can play a role in contributing to South-South cooperation. UNDP has been working to enhance Chinese enterprises capacity of doing business abroad in a more sustainable way.

Phoenix TV will be UNDP’s strategic media partner for promoting their work on Overseas Sustainable Development of Chinese Enterprises. The partnership will jointly establish a platform to facilitate dialogues and activities with stakeholders including business leaders, NGOs and academia.

Furthermore, UNDP China and Phoenix TV will jointly promote the best practices and lessons learnt from Chinese investors by demonstrating the cases through the report and the TV programme “The Odyssey of Dragon”.

In the areas of promoting the SDGs and sustainable development of Chinese enterprises overseas, UNDP China and Phoenix TV share the same mandate and plan to collaborate on advocacy, dialogue, research and resource mobilization by leveraging their connections and expertise.
