In this first episode of “Catching the last wave”, we had a conversation with Deputy Secretary-General of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) Dr Filimon Manoni. Appointed in 2020, Dr Manoni’s worked with PIFS as International Legal Adviser since 2018, being responsible for providing legal policy advice and analysis on regional issues covered by the Secretariat. Before joining the Secretariat, Dr Manoni served as the Attorney General for the Republic of the Marshall Islands, providing both legal and policy analysis to the Government on regional and international matters, including regional and international treaties and agreements.
In this interview, Dr. Manoni tells us about the importance of addressing climate security in the Pacific and its inclusion in the Boe Declaration. His knowledge and expertise gave us a fascinating insight of what climate-related security risks mean for the Pacific people and how we can strengthen human security by focusing on risk management strategies and opportunities.
