“My greatest role model is the late Grand Chief Sir Michael T Somare” - Jack Robinson

Meet Mr. Jack Robinson. He’s a rugby fan - and an integral team member as driver and procurement clerk in Port Moresby at the United Nations Development Programme's Country Office, Papua New Guinea.

On a regular day, Jack ensures the security and maintenance of vehicles, as well as clerical and logistical support. He thrives on positive work ethics: “punctuality, honesty, reliability and transparency.”

Mr. Robinson is proud of his mixed cultural heritage - from Wamira Village, of Milne Bay, and Matupit Island in East New Britain province. He’s the eldest of three children.

“The people of Wamira village are known for growing large healthy taro,” says Jack.

“And the Matupit islanders are most famous for their colorful Tubuan – the traditional Dukduk cultural dressing.”

A graduate of a Catholic-run school currently known as La Sale, Jack worked in publishing, retail and administration before joining the UNDP family in 2020 - to support the sustainable development of Papua New Guinea.

“I am proud of my role here at UNDP, to be part of a team that strives to support the people of PNG in achieving development, peace, and unity.”

“Being a driver, I provide transport for project staff to workshops, trainings, forums and on mission to project sites – I believe UNDP is totally focused and committed towards the delivery of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals in this country.”

“Gender-Based Violence is a widespread issue, however UNDP is supporting our citizens to understand one’s rights and responsibilities and how to prevent violence against women and girls.”

When not busy carrying out his duties, Jack enjoys reading about history, playing rugby league, socializing with peers and meeting new people. Jack is also an adventure enthusiast.

“I've walked parts of the famous Kokoda Trail,” he says. “From Owers Corner to Imitia Ridge. it is around seven kilometres full of steep climbs and descents, through pristine rainforest."

Jack’s ultimate goal is to one day run a small company and help the vulnerable. He says he most admires Papua New Guinea’s first prime minister, the late founding leader of the nation after independence. “My greatest role model is Grand Chief Sir Michael T Somare for his leadership of our country."
