Sustainable development and resilience
A high level of vulnerability
Timor-Leste is highly vulnerable to natural hazards including weather-related risks, such as monsoon rains, droughts, flash floods and landslides. In addition, communities are vulnerable to the impacts of climate variability and change due to poor environmental management practices and high levels of poverty.
Long term resilience building support
UNDP continues to offer policy advice and strengthen policy frameworks and the institutional capacities of the Ministry of Social Solidarity (MSS) and Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Environment (MCIE) to implement disaster, climate and fragility risk management measures and develop preparedness systems at national and sub-national level with the objective of reducing the vulnerability of people living in areas threatened by climate change, and building resilience to shocks.
