Novela, together with her children and grandchildren moved to Yerevan in 2020, right at the beginning of the escalation of the armed conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, leaving behind her home and job. After several months in Yerevan, they relocated to Meghri town of Syunik region.
UNDP’s partner, the “Youth for Change” organization, offered Novela to attend a three-month paid on-the-job training and work experience at the Meghri Women's Resource Center.
Funded by European Union Humanitarian Aid and implemented by UNDP in Armenia, on-the-job trainings are part of a program that supports displaced people in re-establishing their livelihoods. Beneficiaries work in local enterprises for three months and receive a salary during this time.
“Thanks to this programme I decided to develop new skills, which will allow me to find employment in the future.
I attend computer courses, help the specialists at the centre to deliver projects. Now I am using a computer programme to create a video clip, in which I tell about changes in my life resulting from the armed conflict. This experience gives me both the knowledge and the confidence for future employment,” – says Novela.
“Our lives, our future. Supporting self-recovery and resilience of conflict affected communities in Armenia” project is funded by the EU Humanitarian Aid and implemented by UNDP in Armenia.
