Guinea Bissau ratified the United Nations Convention against Corruption on September 10, 2007. Since then, the country has slowly taken appropriate measures for its application and domestication into national law.

However, according to the annual Transparency International Index on Corruption, which measures the perceived level of corruption in a country, Guinea-Bissau ranks among the most corrupt countries in the world.

Upon the request by the Government, the UNDP has been supporting national authorities in the elaboration of a new National strategy to combat corruption, improve transparency and promote integrity. The strategy is being elaborated in close collaboration with the justice, legislative, and security institutions, as well as with the involvement of civil society organizations. The Strategy is expected to be finalized shortly and will provide a roadmap for supporting Guinea-Bissau in a transformative pathway towards integrity.
