UNDP Timor-Leste: A partner of choice

Partnerships are at the heart of the UNDP’s operations. Having been deeply involved in Timor-Leste since independence, the UNDP is a primary implementing partner and supporter of Government of Timor-Leste projects.

The UNDP Country Action Plan 2021-2025, developed in line with the Timor-Leste Strategic Development Plan 2011-2030, consolidates Timor-Leste’s transition to sustainable development.

Cooperation with domestic, international, public and private partners is crucial to sustainable development and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under these plans.

UNDP Timor-Leste is currently working in partnership with, and receiving funds from bilateral and multilateral donors who generously fund projects across the legal, environmental and governance sectors. We also work closely with all UN-system agencies operating in Timor-Leste in their specialist areas.

The UNDPs long-term presence and strong track record in Timor-Leste makes it the primary partner for global funds supporting priority projects in environmental resilience and sustainable job creation.

The private sector is also an essential development actor, able to foster innovation, provide funding and promoting entrepreneurship in Timor-Leste.

UNDP projects such as the Knua Juventude Fila-Liman (KJFL) youth centre are the result of partnerships with private businesses, and others, who can provide business training, business registration and financial loans to new young entrepreneurs.

As a part of the UNDP Timor-Leste’s commitment to serving vulnerable communities we use a wide range of partnership modalities to enable direct grass-roots connections in all areas of the country. We work closely with journalists, people with disabilities, rural communities, and youth to ensure the development of Timor-Leste is equitable and sustainable for all.

UNDP Timor-Leste is grateful to all partners for their continued trust and support.
