Youth Filmmakers celebrating Bangsamoro history, culture and identity

"Datu A Bantogen Sa Ranaw" festival

UNDP Philippines and the European Union supported the second annual Datu A Bantogen Sa Ranaw festival in Mindanao, Philippines. It was organized by the Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur through the Office of Board Member Jeff Adiong, and was also in partnership with Save the Children Philippines and the Office of the Provincial Vice-Governor to encourage Lanao del Sur youth to represent their municipality or city through film, promoting their community’s tourism, history and culture, peacebuilding initiatives and activities, and the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. The activity was also supported by Smart Communications, Inc.

The film 'Balindong' showcases the rich Meranaw culture and what it means to be part of the Bangsamoro community throughout generations. 

Marantao

The lives of Meranaw in Marantao, Lanao del Sur is deeply rooted in Lake Lanao. With the new generation of Bangsamoro people, there is a sense of urgency to protect the lake to preserve their culture and heritage. 

Butig

Butig is considered as one of the oldest settlements in Central Mindanao and several prominent sultanates of Lanao del Sur came from Butig. In this short film, discover why Butig is dubbed as the cradle of Meranaw civilization.
