UNDP Mauritius & Seychelles Accelerator Lab

Our Lab navigates current and future sustainable development challenges by drawing on the collective grassroots knowledge and lived experience of the Mauritian, Rodriguan and Seychellois people.

The UNDP Mauritius and Seychelles Accelerator Lab aims to understand the main drivers of sustainable development by applying ethnographic methodologies through its solution mapping activities, identifying weak signals and emerging trends through exploration, and running experiments with national and regional stakeholders through experimentation. The Lab is building a Grassroots Innovation Database (GRID) of people, their ideas, solutions and innovations across the islands of Mauritius, Rodrigues and Seychelles. Through GRID, we aim to generate actionable insights - from the extent of the socio-economic fallout of the global pandemic to the difficulties facing the two countries in effectively coping with the adverse effects of climate change. The Lab relies on citizen science to decipher behavioral patterns that govern action (or inaction). Its ambition is to inspire the people of Mauritius, Rodrigues and Seychelles to take full ownership of sustainable development by adopting data-driven and agile practices to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
