Within the framework of the Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Compact working group, UNDP co-chairs the PVE Working Group together with UNESCO and the UN Alliance of Civilizations. The Working Group is chaired by UNOCT. UNDP is also a member of the:
- UN Inter-Agency Task Force on Religion and Development
- Network for Religious and Traditional Peacemakers’ Core and Advisory Group
- Global Steering Committee for the Implementation of the Plan of Action for Religious Leaders and Actors to Prevent Incitement to Violence that Could Lead to Atrocity Crimes (Plan of Action)
- UN Working Group on the UN Strategy and Plan of Action on Hate Speech
- IASC Reference Group on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support
In recent years, UNDP’s efforts have advanced in complexity, moving beyond traditional work on conflict prevention and peacebuilding, to address new challenges and risks posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the rapid global digitalisation. UNDP’s Strategic Plan (2022-2025) highlights the relevance of this innovative approach, prioritising joint efforts to pioneer new frontiers for effective and evidence-based programming.
This is why UNDP's global PVE practice leverages multilateral cooperation for addressing the shared challenge of violent extremism. Our efforts engage diverse partners and actors comprising governments and regional bodies; media; private sector; and CSOs from the global to grassroots level, including youth, women, and religious networks.
Among others, our partners include Google, TikTok, SecDev, Beyond Conflict, Nudge Lebanon, United States Institute of Peace, and Oxford Internet Institute, Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism, Hedayah, and Koe Koe Tech. Find out more on UNDP's Strategic Plan at:
